Welcome to Paris’ Bal des Pompiers ! |
||||||||||||||||
Bonjour from Le Marais, Every year, the Bastille Day celebrations take place in most of the fire stations in Paris. True to form this year again, the famous « Bal des Pompiers » will be held on 13 & 14 July, from 9pm to 4am, at the beautiful Hotel de Chavigny, built by François Mansart who was also the architect of the Palace of Versailles. The Sévigné fire station was the first to be built by Napoleon in 1814. Newly-promoted Captain Sébastien and his team will welcome you like old friends. Last year, he and his officers treated us all like kings, affording us the privilege of visiting some of the private rooms of this 17th century mansion, which are not normally open to the public. Canadian photographer Veronika Von Volkova was with us, taking pictures inside the building, of the private moments of the firemen, just before they open their doors to the 10,000 visitors expected during the two nights of festivities. These photos show part of the former Hotel de Chavigny, its magnificent staircase and finely-detailed architecture which are normally hidden away. Friendship and solidarity are important ethics for the Parisian firefighters, but they are also great entertainers and will show off their talent! Bottles of Champagne are affordable enough for visitors to quaff bubbles all night long, and softs drinks are less than €3. In both courtyards, live DJs will be playing the latest hits as well as glorious disco hits and 90’s best of techno and electro music. Entry is free, but please give generously as your donations will help their charity work. A suggested amount would be at least €10 euros each to support the incredible work they do every day to protect and rescue us. Donations will also help maintain and restore the beautiful Hotel de Chavigny and support the ADOSPP the association which takes care of injured firemen and their families. If you miss this occasion to dance and party with our favorite life savers, you could visit this historic station again later in the year on one our traditional European Heritage Days held on 15th and 16th September 2018. (traduction.culture.gouv.fr) You can read the complete History of the BSPP (Brigade des Sapeurs-Pompiers de Paris) here. Unlike firemen in most cities and countries, Paris’ firefighters are part of the French army, which is perhaps why they inspire so much respect and admiration. We certainly respect and admire them! Bienvenue, Wilkomen, Welcome to Paris’ best open air party! The PARISMARAIS ® Team |
