Le Marais by Marianne Ström : A living Masterpiece

Marianne Ström is a well renowned art historian who presented her doctoral thesis at the Sorbonne University on the subject of Public Art, Integration of the Plastic Arts in the Architectural, Public and Social spaces. She lives and works in the Marais quarter in Paris. Marianne is a gifted photographer who early on became fascinated by the beauty of the historical palaces in the Marais and started to take pictures of their classical facades, mascarons, staircases, portals, door-knockers, balconies, consoles... The resulting photographs have been presented in two different versions at the Historical Library of the City of Paris. Some of these photos and many others are reproduced in this new book.

Marianne has also explored the art and architecture in the underground subway stations in more than 40 cities around the world. Her photos of Metro-Art in the Metro-Polis have been shown in an itinerant exhibition touring between 1987 and 2009 in four continents from Brussels to Moscow, from Stockholm to Brasilia, from Buenos Aires to the Pompidou Center in Paris.

Her traveling exhibition on Sacred Sites, Architecture and Popular expressions highlights the similarities and contrasts between holy places in different religions in the world. It was first presented at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, then in the Albert-Khan museum, in the City Halls of Oslo and Stockholm.

Finally, Marianne's exhibition on Wooden Architecture in Sweden is a portrait of and an homage to the beauty of wooden churches, palaces, schools, small cottages and large buildings in her native Sweden.
