Bonjour from Le Marais

PARISMARAIS is proud to announce our Art Director Yukié Matsushita's new book and to present her work.

Yukié was born in Fukushima, Japan. When she was twelve years old she moved to the United States with her artist mother and two brothers. It was a challenge for her to learn English, particularly the aspect of trying to comprehend the usage of definite and indefinite articles, as they don't exist in Japanese. Yukié fell in love with Paris on her first visit to Europe during her junior year of college. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree from SUNY Binghamton in 1987, she moved to New York City where she worked as a graphic designer. In 1994 she moved to Paris and has been

PARISMARAIS's art director since 2012. Yukié is an eternal student, and she quickly understood how english speakers mix up « Le » and « La » when speaking French. Her multicultural and multilingual background led her to create a brilliant method for learning the French language.

This year, Yukié published her first book, « ABC Paris », with writer Michelle Gross. She presented the book in June during her art show at the Beffroi Art Space in Paris' first arrondissement.

« ABC Paris » is a truly delightful book for a visitor as well as the perfect souvenir of Paris. PARISMARAIS recommends it highly, not only because it is a beautifully illustrated book of Parisian monuments from A to Z, but because it invites you into a Parisian home to enjoy the view of la Ville Lumière through their window.

In this book Yukié introduces a great color code method of learning French noun genders by using bluish tones for masculine words, and reddish tones for feminine words. This helps visualize and memorize French vocabulary with the correct gender. Short texts are written by Michelle about each monument bring out the richness of Parisian history.
