The 21 June is known as the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, but it is also the annual date for the now traditional Fête de la Musique, created in 1982 by Jack Lang, French Minister of Culture at that time.

It was first held on 21 June 1982 and it was so incredibly popular and successful that it was declared an official national event the following year.
This well-loved festival, representing all styles of music from classical to jazz became big and bigger, and more and more successful year on year.
In less than 30 years, the festival had spread worldwide and by 2011, was celebrated in 110 countries across 5 continents.

Le Marais is one of the most active locations during the Fête de la Musique, it's good fun, it's wholesome, it's multicultural, and it's also a little fore-taster for the Gay Pride festival which is held each year in Paris on the last Saturday in June. Here are a few photos from the hundreds we have taken over the years, so don't miss the next hot event in Le Marais: Gay Pride Saturday 27 June. Shortly after, on the 13 & 14 July, the biggest open air nightclub in Paris kicks off at the famous French Fireman's Ball!
