Where to Stay and to enjoy a baroque decor ? |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
Le Pavillon de la Reine To enjoy your Marais stay in true Baroque style, an excellent choice is the Hotel Pavillon de la Reine on the romantic Place des Vosges and located between a stunning courtyard and garden. It is an oasis of luxury and peace in a very animated area. The Pavillon de la Reine’s 56 rooms - all different - are equipped with the latest amenities, yet the feeling is mostly of old- world elegance. All rooms are impeccably decorated. The staff of the Pavillon de la Reine will help you feel at home, either in your room, or with a drink at the “honesty bar” near their lovely fireplace. Le Pavillon de la Reine |

Le Bourg Tibourg, a neo-gothic and baroque boudoir Hotel Bourg Tibourg is another Baroque jewel in one of the most picturesque parts of Paris. It is steeped in the atmosphere of its home neighbourhood, the Marais. The decoration is neo-gothic inspired, with a spicy touch of the orient softened by a very romantic, very "French" touch. The rooms combine harmony and elegance against a backdrop of comfort and modernity. Hotel Bourg Tibourg |

The Marais House, a mini Chateau in Le Marais To make sure you’re spoilt for choice, we also include The Marais House, which is not really a hotel but rather a combination of a hotel particulier and a prestigious bed & breakfast, qualifying amply for our 4 lys category. Yann-Gabriel Hentschke’s meticulously restored interior breaks any and all molds, positively exuding attitude. Having lovingly tracked down the raw materials, he then proceeded to transform the derelict shell it was into a sort of miniature 18th century chateau. Details such as stone floors, furniture from Poitiers and the Loire Valley, as well as original fireplaces date mostly from the same era. The Marais House |

Hotel Caron De Beaumarchais, the ultimate baroque experience. Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais feels more like a Marais "hotel particulier" in times of yore than the usual Paris hotel. You are in a private house, between past and present. The MARRIAGE OF FIGARO, Beaumarchais' most famous play, inspired the hotel's entire decor. Charm, gaiety, joie de vivre, elegance, refinement and a spirit of freedom, all the elements making up the originality of French culture were born in Paris under Beaumarchais. Chandeliers and candelabra, antique furniture, the past seems to come to life again, with present-day comforts: sound-proofing, double-glazing, free Wi-Fi internet access, air conditioning, satellite TV. 19 refined 3-star rooms, with an elevator to all floors. Breakfast is served in the rooms until midday. Hotel Caron De Beaumarchais |

Keeping with our bewitching Baroque theme, we suggest a visit to some of the awe-inspiring monuments of the Marais such as the Cognacq Jay Baroque Museum. This small but excellent museum perfectly portrays the sophisticated French lifestyle in what is known as the Age of Enlightenment. The 18th-century art and furniture on display were once the private collection of Ernest Cognacq and his wife, Louise Jay, founders of the Samaritaine department store. It is superbly displayed in the Hôtel Donon, an elegant late 16th-century building with an 18th-century façade. Cognacq Jay – the Baroque Museum |

To continue your romp through the Baroque Marais, why not stop in at the church of Saint Paul in the rue Saint-Antoine? This breath-taking church was constructed for Louis XIII during the first half of the 17th century by the architects Étienne Martellange and François Derand. Saint Paul Church |

Still feeling full of energy with a burning desire for baroque? The church of Saint Elisabeth is also worth a visit for its many treasures including one which is completely unique - it has the last image painted of Louis XVI & Marie Antoinette emprisoned in the dungeon before their execution. Still feeling fiery? Lovers of classical music will be well served their dose by going to the Armenian Church, a veritable Mecca of Baroque art where you can enjoy not only its stunning design but also its high quality concerts on weekends, for just a few euros. Armenian Church |
