Des Gars dans la CuisineOne does not find enough neologisms to qualify this intimate setting. It has a well- polished decor and inventive menu which revisits the great classics with inspirations from all corners of the globe. Dinner prices are more than reasonable taking into account the quality of the products. You may lose your heart when you experience the devastating smile of the waiters and raucous humour of the two owners and « their boys »: Jean-Jacques Delaval and Gil Rosinha, the chef. Le Gaspard de la NuitA semi-gastronomical traditional cuisine has found it’s home in Le Gaspard de la Nuit, in the rue des Tournelles. The menu, known for its fresh produce delivered daily, proposes a lovely selection of «reinvented dishes», nonetheless keeping their authenticity. A bistrot menu is also available (entree + main course + drink) every day except Saturday. The wine cellar is bursting with veritable treasures at modest prices that Myriam, the owner, unveils with gourmandise. Among the impressive selection are some real finds such as a Côte du Rhone, Côte Rotie 2006 - les Essartailles, and a Chateau LaSalle de Poujeaux 2005 Second vin du Chateau Poujeaux Moulis. MonjulDiscover the 21st century Parisian fusion cuisine that everyone love to look at as well as eat. Every detail of every meal looks like a work of art and is, thanks to their fun and original « trompe l’œil » concept where nothing is what you think it is. Every single meal is an experiment. The food is delicious, the furnishings are simple but very tasteful, and it’s a bargain for 3 courses at 35,50 euros or, even better, the five-course taster menu for 50 euros. You will be very full, but i twill be worth it ! We can really call Julien Agobert’s cuisine a trompe l’œil cuisine- creative, surprising and always a joy to behold. Be sure you book to get a table ! Le Petit CurieuxThis adorable little gem right in the heart of the Haut Marais has a warm, friendly atmosphere that draws you in as does its name. The dishes are traditional with an unexpected twist that never fails to please, such as the appetizer of truffled poached eggs, or the purée of carrots and cumin. Main dishes such as roasted spare ribs with homemade barbeque sauce and basmati rice or ravioli with saffron sauce practically melt in your mouth. Portions are generous, well worth every calorie, but better to fast beforehand than miss out on their beautiful and delectable desserts, such as chocolate fondant with Bailey’s sauce or the delectable tarte Tatin. The house wine is good, quite reasonable, and sold either by the bottle or, as was customary in Italy, “à la ficelle” (meaning you pay for what you drink of the bottle). 16 Rue des Filles du Calvaire |

Les BougressesA stone’s throw from the charming Place du Marché Sainte Catherine, this cosy restaurant impresses with its impeccable hospitality and fine creativity which marries traditional cuisine at very reasonable prices with the chef's inventive touch such as Bressane chicken salad with four spices, home-made duck foie gras, bone marrow with “fleur de sel” coarse salt, steak with foie gras sauce, bouillabaisse (traditional French fish stew) "Bougresses", sea bream with lime and ratatouille, roasted sea bass and mashed potatoes with olive oil, and duck confit with sauteed Roseval potatoes. Le Bistrot du TempleYou will be pleasantly spoiled in this charming restaurant by the friendly owner and sommelier, Pascal Potin, who moved to the Haut Marais after running another gastronomic endeavour for twenty-five years on the island of St. Martin. An innovative, inventive, international cuisine is offered, with new dishes presented every day. Regarding the artistic Marais decor, the walls of this cozy traditional bistro serve as a gallery, with original works available for purchase. Among the starters we tried and recommend : avocado with citrus fruit, poached egg and purple potato chips, Scottish gravlax with beets, and confit of beef ravioli in Thai vegetable broth. Among the dishes we adored were the sea bream crusted with herbs and parmesan, the duck breast with apricot chutney juice in bitter cocoa sauce, and the lamb with marjoram and eggplant caviar. Among the desserts we broke our diets for were the warm chocolate tart with salted butter, banana cream and vanilla bourbon, the nage de fraise "gariguettes" à la marjolaine (strawberries with marjoram) with Bulgarian yoghurt ice cream, and the “hot and cold” pineapple and vanilla mint with mango sorbet. You will be delighted by the welcome, service and “food art” that prevails at Bistrot du Temple! More about this great restaurant with Parismarais.com 19, rue de Picardie |
