June is the busiest month in Paris with many cultural events for you to enjoy! Here’s a list of our favorites that you won’t want to miss.There are few cities in the world that can compete with the diversity of cultural and social events organized by the city as well as private entities.

PARIS 2012 SUMMER SALES

The 2012 summer sales will officially begin in France Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 8am and finish at the end of the day Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Sales, called “Soldes” in French, are state-regulated in France. Please note that a few parts of France have different official 2012 summer sale dates. Shops, department stores, boutiques, and designer outlets clear out items by gradually dropping their prices over the course of the sales period.

PARIS GAY PRIDE - Mark your calendar- June 30, 2012 !

In a procession of color, gaiety and fun along the streets of the capital, the now legendary “Marche des fiertés” proclaims its protest message against all forms of discrimination, and support of equality as well as putting an end to homophobia.

Due to the recent election of Social Democrat president François Hollande and the majority they won in parliament, rights for LGBT people will be accomplished very soon, hopefully in the next few months. We recently met our new Member of Parliament Seybah Dagoma. Born in Nantes, an attorney, at only 33 years old, she is a member of Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanöe’s team and has always been on the front lines in every fight for liberty and justice. She is in charge of the social economy. She was elected « députée du 3e et 10e arrondissement » on the 17th of June 2012.

Each year, more than half a million people take part in this event. As usual, the parade will have a theme, which is always treated with thought and humor, and which may be a reflection of society, a subject of debate, or a sensitive topic.

The floats file past a crowd of bystanders and locals, who are at first surprised and then won over by the stream of dancing, singing and rhetoric, always conveying the same warmth and conviction.

It starts at Paris Montparnasse and reaches Place de la Bastille plaza at 5 p.m. The best place to sit and watch the parade is definitely the Pont de Sully, where you also have a fabulous view of the back of Notre Dame.

Le Dôme du Marais

Nestled in the heart of the old Mont de Piété auction room inaugurated in 1777, the Dome du Marais is an elegant restaurant uniquely decorated and offering fine, traditional French cuisine with an Asian touch. Taste sea bream tartare with lime, ginger and herb salad (16 euros) or green pea ice cream with mint (9 euros) before discovering other fantastic dishes. The lamb with vegetable ratatouille jam (26 euros) or the veal liver and carrot puree with bacon and caramelized sherry (27 euros) literally melt in your mouth. The lunch options are particularly attractive (19 and 32 euros). In the afternoon, it becomes a wonderful tea room where time seems suspended. Enjoy a lovely selection of teas in the sunny winter garden and let your mind wander while admiring the original objects that form the decor.

Le Gaspard de la Nuit

A semi-gastronomical traditional cuisine has found it’s home in «Le Gaspard de la nuit», in the rue des Tournelles. The menu, known for its fresh produce delivered daily, proposes a lovely selection of «reinvented dishes», nonetheless keeping their authenticity. Treat yourself to their famous steak with black pepper sauce (29 euros), possibly one of the neighborhood’s best. The rabbit with lavender (18,50 euros) or the escargot ravioli are also delicious. A bistrot menu at 25 euros is also available (entree + main course + drink) every day except Saturday. The wine cellar is bursting with veritable treasures at reasonable prices that Myriam, the owner, unveils with gourmandise. Among the impressive selection are some real finds such as a côte du Rhone, côte rotie 2006 - les essartailles (68 euros) or a Chateau Lasalle de Poujeaux 2005 Second vin du Chateau Poujeaux Moulis. Reserve your table in advance, as space in this popular restaurant is limited.

FESTIVAL DES SOIRS D'ETE AT PARIS DISTRICT 3 CITY HALL

Thanks to Mr. Pierre Aidenbaum, our local Mayor, this festival brings free culture and entertainment to all residents and tourists during June and July. Every night, until 14 July, enjoy a new show or film in the open air courtyard facing the Temple Garden, at the spot where 200 years ago the Temple Tower Prison stood, Queen Marie Antoinette’s last residence.

Open Café

Completely redecorated, with a new team of sexy bartenders, Open Café’s central corner location on the busy rue des Archives makes it the perfect place to people-watch all year. L’Oiseau Bariolé

Tyra, Franky and their team welcome you like friends in their classy, cozy, charming, mixed gay and gay-friendly little bar located in the heart of the Marais. They offer hundreds of cocktails and “mocktails” (without alcohol) at affordable prices, including the XXL size (half a liter to share) at 17 euros! The lovely and original decoration of comfortable black leather seats and dark blue walls is the work of Oscar Larrat’s recent renovation. From Sunday to Thursday, it is open from 17h to 2h as well as every weekend and the eve of public holidays from 17h to 4h. Cocktails are reasonably priced, plus there is a cocktail happy hour from 17h to 21h- buy one and get the 2nd one free. In the basement you will find a small club with DJs, which on the weekend is open until 4h. Every week the bar also offers themed evenings.

Located close to the Centre Georges Pompidou in the heart of le Marais, the chef offers a « French culinary burger tour » (duck confit, salmon, tartare, even foie gras, as well as seasonal burgers). Follivores and Crazyvores

The Follivores and Crazyvores are the most unpretentiously fun dance parties in the Marais, held at Le Bataclan every other Saturday. Twice each month, thousands of French music addicts gather to dance to the sound of classic French dance hits including songs from famous icons like Dalida, Mylene Farmer, Claude François, France Gall, Julie Pietrie, Rose Laurens and many more singers from the 70’s up to the present. It’s been on for years and is still a must. If you’re not familiar with French disco classics you may be shocked, but it’s definitely worth discovering. Don’t miss La Nuit des Follivores and La Nuit des Crazyvores, twice each month on Saturdays at Le Bataclan, under the talented eye of DJ Hervé.
